PDF 403: Forbidden Errors

Symptoms:

When opening a pdf stored locally in Jupyter you receive a 403: Forbidden error.

Note:

This issue is still being researched. This is something to do with the user's system, not DSA systems. This only affects some users. It is likely related to a configuration in the brower, or controls set on your system by your employer.

Possible Solutions:

  • If you are on a work VPN or proxy, try accessing the PDF on another device or turn off the VPN.
  • Make sure your browser is up-to-date.
  • Try a different browser.
  • In Chrome, right-click and open in incognito mode.
  • In Chrome, install the PDF Viewer extension. Let us know if this works in your situation. It was a previous solution that worked for Sue but is no longer necessary with recent versions of Chrome.
  • Right-click the link and download the pdf to your computer and read it there, if that is available. This option seems to have disappeared in recent versions of Chrome but used to work.
  • Untested advice for Chrome:
    • Clear your browser's cache and cookies.
    • Turn off all extensions and see if you can open the PDF. Enable extensions one by one to identify the one causing the conflict.
